Here's a little background on how I decided upon the final image. I had about 3 hours to read the article, come up with a concept, and develop detailed enough sketches to convey my idea and style. I ultimately sent the following three options:

They went with the first one, which I then took to finish and came up with this:

I am so thankful for the opportunity to work with Charleston Magazine and am super psyched with how the image looked in the layout. They did a wonderful job!
