Project #2

For my first official project in my Concepts & Composition course, I was asked to illustrate a sound without simply reproducing the "sound-maker." So, I decided to personify it!

I thought for awhile about sounds that I like: the sound of rain on a roof, waves crashing on the shore, the deafening silence in the woods after snowfall. I find all of these sounds pleasant, but none felt as though they could translate well into this type of illustration. I agonized over an idea all night and decided to give it a rest and to re-think everything in the morning.

The next morning I was awoke to the jarring sound of my alarm clock. The loud constant ringing felt like it was screaming in my ear to "WAKE UP!" At that very moment I knew that was the perfect sound to personify!

What do you think?

  1. Thats a great representation of the moment when you're rudely awaken! We can all relate. Love the face. Almost looks like a baby crossed with an old man, depending on your perspective and probably lifestyle (like the old woman/young girl split drawing). I love the blog! xoxo, Foye
