Sketchbook

Apparently as an artist I am supposed to have an undying desire to constantly be sketching. Unfortunately I do not. I admire those who are brave enough to whip out their sketchbook at a bar, at a party, while conversing with friends, or even worse, while out to dinner at a restaurant (these are all behaviors I have witnessed in the Land Of Art School and struggled to comprehend). These people blow my mind. It's like their hands aren't connected to the rest of their body, as it moves over the page feverishly all while their eyes and ears are focused on a current conversation. I just don't get it. But, I've never gotten it.

In college I was required to keep a sketchbook for certain classes, and obviously I filled the majority of the book the night before. I just can't make myself sketch. My candidacy review is next year to make sure my Masters Program still wants me, and a requirement is to show your sketchbook(s). Some people have dozens. They fill one every few weeks. I have dozens as well, but the main difference is that in mine, each has about two pages drawn on. Whoops.

Luckily, here in Lacoste, there is very little to do and a whole lot to look at, which makes for great sketching. Hopefully by the time I return to the States I will have an ENTIRE sketchbook complete! Oh my, what a goal. Wish me luck.

  1. hallo lis!! you're missed. i do love this sketch. and the puss in boots. i think in the past year i moved over to the side that houses the people who sketch at random and all times. though i wouldnt say i sketch ALL the time. but im no longer self conscious about busting out the book while i'm out. i dont know what triggered the change. i def was not a sketch type person up until relatively recently.
